Message from Norman Rosenblum, INMD Scientific Director
August 2025

It was a privilege to host an INMD Early Career Researcher (ECR) meeting in early June of this year in Blue Mountain, Ontario. We had 42 ECRs in attendance for this intensive meeting focused on enhancing participant’s future success in obtaining peer reviewed grant funding, gaining knowledge and skills in peer review and knowledge mobilization, enhancing knowledge about Indigenous Health Research and providing networking and mentorship opportunities.
Sessions featured established INMD researchers and focused on managing a successful research program, building a knowledge mobilization and translation plan, Indigenous Health Research, managing ones’ professional life in the context of ones’ whole life, grant writing tips and a mock peer review exercise. We also had the opportunity to play mini-golf and engage in one-to-one mentorship discussions with ECRs.
I wish to sincerely thank the mentors for their enthusiasm and generosity in making time to mentor this inspiring group of ECRs. I especially wish to thank Dr. Cristina Nostro (U of Toronto, UHN), who was our keynote speaker and shared details about her academic journey so candidly. This was the last ECR meeting that I will host in my capacity as Scientific Director of INMD, and I was extremely inspired and impressed by the keen participation of the ECRs and the quality of mentorship. I felt that the ECRs who attended this meeting represent the future of health research, and it is my sincere wish that their research and their careers will flourish and that the work they do will have a positive impact on the health of Canadians.
Wishing you a happy summer!
Dr. Norman Rosenblum, MD, FRCPC, FCAHS
